2006-11-08 & 09 Update

On Wednesday November 8, 2006 Development Services staff including Director Tim Snellings, Assistant Director Pete Calarco, Planning Manager Chuck Thistlethwaite, Principal Planner Dan Breedon, and Senior Planner Noel Carvalho along with staff from the General Plan consultant Design, Community & Environment completed a ground tour of Butte County. The tour included visiting many of the unincorporated communities of Butte County as well as the outlying areas in the vicinity Biggs, Chico, Gridley, Oroville, and Paradise. The tour also traveled through the major geographic landforms of Butte County including the valley, foothills, and mountains and important landmarks such as Oroville Dam, Lake Oroville, the Sacramento and Feather Rivers and Butte College. Other important planning areas such as the Durham-Dayton-Nelson Planning Area and the North Chico Specific Planning area were also toured.

On Thursday, November 9, 2006 Development Services staff including Director Tim Snellings, Principal Planner Dan Breedon, and Senior Planner Noel Carvalho along with Design, Community & Environment Principal David Early and Associate Project Manager Michael Brilliot completed an air tour compliments of Airport Land Use Commissioner Chairman and pilot Bob Hennigan. This tour included flying between the boundaries of Butte County and provided additional context to the many areas visited on the ground tour. Valley highlights included the Gray Lodge State Wildlife Area, and viewing field crops such as rice, and fruit and nut crops such as almonds, walnuts, plums, and olives from the air. Mountain and foothill highlights included views of North and South Table Mountain, Bald Rock, the Upper Ridge, Butte Meadows, portions of the Feather River, Lake Oroville, the coniferous forests of the upper mountains, and the blue oak woodlands of the foothills.  The tour also included excellent viewing of each of the four cities and the Town of Paradise and surrounding unincorporated areas.
