On June 12, 2007 General Plan 2030 Principal Planner
Dan Breedon attended the Butte County Annual Tourism
meeting held at the Bayliss Ranch near Gridley,
hosted by Donna Bayliss, a member of the Butte
County General Plan 2030 Citizens Advisory
Committee. The meeting emphasized the need to
capitalize on Butte County’s existing assets by
marketing agri-tourism and developing ways to
promote tourism in general. Opening remarks were
provided by Debra Lucero, Director of Butte County
Cultural Tourism. Tourism Activity Reports were
provided by representatives of the incorporated
cities and other groups.
Copies of the “Butte County General Plan Existing
Conditions Briefing Book” were distributed at the
meeting. The “Butte County General Plan 2030
Guiding Principles” include several areas that are
related to the development of cultural and
agricultural tourism, such as Economic Development,
Agriculture, Recreational Opportunities and
Protection of Cultural Resources, and Rural
Development. The promotion of Butte County’s local
economy will be the subject of a planned Economic
Summit that will take place on October 15, 2007 from
9:00 to 3:00 pm at the Sierra Nevada Brewery’s Big
Room in Chico.
