A special Study Session was held
by the Butte County Planning
Commission on Friday, to select
the Preferred Land Use
Alternative for the Butte County
General Plan 2030.
The area under view was Biggs
and Gridley Study Areas,
followed by the Chico and Durham
areas.
For Biggs
and Gridley, the areas of 31, 33
and 34 were designated by
Commissioners as Urban Reserve.
This means it is up to the two
cities to develop. The county
will not develop, once it has
deemed the land Urban Reserve.
The two cities have been in
disagreement the past few years,
concerning the Area of Concern
with Supervisors stating at a
joint meeting held in Gridley
February 26, 2008, that they
would make decisions for the two
cities, if they could not agree.

minutes of that meeting state,
"Both Biggs and Gridley support
the concept of an County Urban
Reserve for the Area of Concern,
which would set aside this area
for future urban growth, and
prohibit parcelization at this
time. Alternatively, both Cities
would support County zoning that
would prohibit development until
a future time when Urban Growth
plans are developed by the
Cities."
At Friday's meeting, it was
apparent that the two cities
wanted to agree and get along,
when Biggs City Administrator
Pete Carr and Gridley's
Community Development Director
Andrea Redamonti approached the
podium together and thanked
commissioners for their
decision.
Butte County Department of
Development Services Director,
Tim Snellings stated, "We
continue to develop strong
working relationships between
Butte County and the cities, and
last Friday's Planning
Commission meeting underscores
how well our cooperative
planning process has evolved
during the Butte County General
Plan 2030 process."
