Hi everyone:
This coming Tuesday (July 29) and Wednesday (July
30), the Butte County Board of Supervisors will
consider 31 Study Ares in the unincorporated areas
of the county for inclusion in a preliminary
Preferred Alternative for Butte County General Plan
2030. These meetings will conclude Workshop Series
4, the selection of a Preferred Alternative. Why is
this important? It is from this draft Land Use plan
that we will take the next steps forward in our
process to develop Goals and Policies (Workshop
Series 5) which will start Monday, September 8,
2008. At the end of developing the Goals and
Polices, we will circle back and check in with the
Land Use plan and make sure that the Goals and
Polices developed are consistent with the Land Use
plan PRIOR to drafting the new General Plan next
year. If necessary, at that time (January 2009),
course
corrections can be made to the Land Use plan.
There is a LOT of information available on our
website at
http://www.buttegeneralplan.net. Some of the
information that you might want to review are as
follows:
- The voting summary from
the Citizens Advisory Committee and Planning
Commission meetings for each Study Area
- The complete agenda
report to the Planning Commission (which
includes all of the information the Planning
Commission reviewed in order to make their
recommendations)
- A link to the
Alternatives Evaluation Report, which is 571
pages of information developed for each Study
Area to assist in determining the pros/cons of
each Study Area relative to each of the 3
alternatives considered and the following
constraints: Market Viability, Public Services,
Water, Wastewater, Airport Compatibility,
Impacts to Agriculture, Biological Resources
(including the Butte Regional Conservation Plan/HCP),
Safety and Hazards and Cultural Resources
- Meeting notes
- Public Comments received
- Comments from each of the
incorporated cities
NOTE TO PROPONENTS AND
OPPONENTS OF STUDY AREAS: We are working on a
GENERAL PLAN, not a specific project. Members of
the public should keep this in mind when presenting
their ideas to the Board of Supervisors, meaning,
they should NOT get into specific Project Level
details. This will be further explained at the
meeting to keep the discussion at the right level
and to help us be efficient
with everyone’s time as these 31 Study Areas are
reviewed by the Board of Supervisors.
